a way of life

August 29, 2008

My new entertainment is listening to different conferences about entrepreneurship given in American universities and delivered throught iTunesU. That’s one example and my notes about what Rob Campbell says in Warrington College of Business.

Rob Campbell, inventor of Power Point and FileMaker, discusses the life of in the early days of Apple and Microsoft.

1- It’s not a job, it’s not the money, it’s a way of life. Entrepreneurship is all about the way you live your life.

2- Entrepreneurship is about being passionate about what you’re going to do and doing it in such a way that you could do it the rest of your life. It’s not about doing it now so that you can do something latter.

3- Although you are the boss, reality is that you work for everyone: customers, employees, investors, bankers, suppliers….

4- It’s all about the customer. You have to ask to yourself every day “What does my customer expect from me? What’s the best thing I can do for them today?”

a. Everyone in the company needs to be in customer support: know the product, know the customer and be able to answer the phone and say “thank you from calling, here is what I can do for you

b. You want to provide products that only get better with time. The passion is revealed over time, the more they use the product the more amazed they are with it

Also, 2 anecdotes from Apple:

- Learning from Steve Jobs: “products have to be INSANELY great

- Question in a road tour from an analyst, when Apple went public: “what is Apple’s biggest risk” – Steve: “a nuclear attack
